Laurens, power and dry bones...

Last Sunday I preached on 'power' this Sunday we were blessed by a flying visit from Major Alan Laurens. The Major also spoke on power. Is the Lord trying to say something to Dartford? Major Laurens also compared the Corps to Ezekiel's 'dry bones'. This is the second time this prophetic word has been given to the Corps. Ray, the Pentecostal minister, delivered the same word at a recent 'churches together' prayer meeting.

Lord, fulfil this word in our time, show us the conditions attached to these promises and send us power!

Amen!

Today's scripture readings:

1 Chronicles 15:1-16:36

"Worship the Lord in the splendour of his holiness"! (16:29)

"Then all the people said "Amen"" (16:36)

Psalm 90:11-17

Romans 16:1-27

"Now to him who is able to establish you by my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all nations might believe and obey him— to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen." (16:25-27)

A great meeting and a very challenging message yesterday! For what it's worth, one of the Bible Studies at SAFE this year was also about Ezekiel ... I join with you in prayer for our Corps.

Yours, in His service,
C

Andrew,

I have read your entries on Ezekiel's 'Dry Bones' and it won't surprise to learn, therefore, that I read your entry of Saturday 10 March, 2007.

My, my, my, what powerful words! However, I think you hit a solution that you, yourself cannot see.

The Salvation Army is only that in name. Not in fact. The last thing it wants are new Booth's, Tucker's etc etc to burst forth into its ranks. Such people would be seen as trouble makers, and if they were Officers, be shunted to an obscure desk where 'He/She can do no harm'.

What you need is the Lord Himself to come amongst you. However, would you like what he has to say? How many Salvationists would put down their Cornets, leave the apparant safety of their Corps, and campaign against the ills of our modern World? How many would be willing to serve prison time for taking stances that would make them seem 'prejudiced'? Very few, if any.

Until the Salvation Army stops being a social club, you will wax and wane like the other Churches around you.

However, I know there are the loving, the gracious and the brave amongst you; and may their numbers grow!

In Jesus' Name. Amen.
